Trent is the Dja Dja Wurrung team leader at Parks Victoria, where he manages the cultural heritage of six joint-managed national parks in collaboration with two rangers.
Trent is a proud Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta man, originally from Shepparton. Last year he made the move to Kangaroo Flat for a change and to live on his Dja Dja Wurrung grandfather’s land
Joint management provides opportunities for traditional owners and Parks Victoria to work closely together, “It is fairly new in Central Victoria. It’s a different process every time it comes into play. We’re involved with healing land and reconnecting Dja Dja Wurrung people with the land and culture.”
Trent is currently completing a Certificate IV at Latrobe in Aboriginal Culture Heritage Management, “The best thing about it is being able to gain a bit more knowledge. As we’re out every day in the field, we’re coming across more Aboriginal sites and knowing where they are. It’s my grandfather’s clan, so being able to visit, I feel like I’m actually doing something and am reconnecting with my clan.”
